Top 5 books that will definitely make you cry
It’s not an easy job writing a story. The story only makes an impact if all the elements of plot, character sketch, theme, chemistry, writing skills are in the desired proportion. I have a belief that if the author can make the readers cry and be heartbroken after reading their story, he/she has succeeded as a storyteller. You see, most of the times seeing an emotional scene we reach out to that character and the credit completely goes to the actor, but in books that’s not the case. The author has the sole purpose of engaging the reader and he/she has to keep them hooked up throughout the book. It’s a tough job, as I pointed out earlier.
I have read ‘N’ number of books but a few books have managed to scar me for a lifetime. They have ripped me open and there is no choice but to endure the pain because pain demands to be felt!
So let’s take a deep breath and list out some of the books which guarantee heartbreaks.
1. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
This is the story of Lou and Will. Lou newly unemployed is searching for a job and by chance, she gets a job where she becomes a caretaker for a man named Will. Will a young man, is paralyzed due to a motorcycle accident and has lost hope in life. Their relationship starts off rocky due to the aloofness and resentment of Will because of his disability. As time goes, Will and Lou become friends and starts having feelings for each other.
Despite Will being significantly happy after Lou entered his life.. he is not ready to live as a disabled person and wants to be euthanized.
The Climax is a cry fest. Lou and Will are definitely going to twist a knife into the gut.

2. The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
This is the story about a man Henry, who is suffering from a genetic disorder which makes him time travel and his Wife Clare who is left behind waiting for him to return. This debut novel of Niffenegger is like asking for someone to pour lemon juice over the paper cuts. I’m an addict when it comes to anguish. I read and reread books which make me sob and lose my mind over fictional characters and their love. This book left a hole in my heart and damaged a part of my soul as I finished the book.
You cannot help but let the tears drop during the climax. Your heart will reach out for Clare as she refuses to move on in life after the death of Henry and waits for him even in her old age.
3. The Faults in Our Stars by John Green
This is the story of Hazel Grace, a cancer patient who is forced by her parents to attend a support group where she meets her love interest Augustus waters, an ex-basketball player, and amputee.
The title is inspired by William Shakespeare drama ‘Julius Ceaser’. Your eyes won’t well up till the last few chapters, but once it does… it’s a roller coaster of emotions. It hits you the hardest when you read the letter of Augustus Waters. The book is of around 216 pages, can be read in a single sitting…but the pain it leaves behind cannot be overlooked.
If you are looking for your heart to be broken to million pieces and have no intention of overcoming the pain…this is the book for you.
4. The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks
What else can you expect from Nicholas Sparks? He is a master when it comes to making his readers sob uncontrollably. The last song deals with a 17 -year- old troubled teenage girl Veronica ‘Ronnie’ Miller, who is not able to come to terms with her parents’ divorce.
Her mother decides it’s best for Ronnie and her 10 -year- old brother Jonah to spend the summer in Wrightsville beach where their father stays.
Ronnie, who hates her father, is aloof towards him during her stay. But as time passes Ronnie uncovers many truths and one of them is her father suffering a terminal illness.
Sparks with his words makes the reader cry their eyes out. The reconciliation of Ronnie and her father is bittersweet.
Quick read and a guaranteed heartache!
5. The Host by Stephenie Meyer
The host is a romance novel which deals a post-apocalyptic period. Earth is being invaded by parasite aliens called ‘souls’ and one soul named Wanda struggles with her host ‘Melanie’ as she refuses to give control of the body to the former.
The conflict between Wanda, Mel and their love interest Jared is told beautifully.
But the last few chapters and pre-climax will have you wallowing in sorrow.
Want to experience an ocean of sorrow; this is the one for you.

Read and sob!!! Happy reading.
