Kannada Actor Chandrashekhar of Edakallu Guddada Mele fame passed away earlier this morning, due to a heart attack in Ottawa, Canada. He is survived by his mother, wife and a daughter.
Chandrashekar was born to Shiva Swamy and Rathna. From his childhood days he was associated with acting taking part in stage plays. Chandrashekar had made his debut into Kannada film industry as a child artist in the 1969 Kannada movie Namma Makkalu, where his performance earned him reorganization. He acted in a supporting role in BV Karanth and Girish Karnad’s National Award-winning movie Vamsha Vriksha.
But the big break came to him, When he was offered a lead actor in Putanna Kanagal’s path breaking 1973 film Edakallu Guddadamele. The success of the film was such that people started to refere him by the name of the film as Edakallu Guddadamele Chandrashekhar.
Thereafter, He worked in several movies, including Sampathige Saval, Hamsageethe, Raja Nanna Raja, Maagiya Kanasu, Asthithva, Kaaranji, Male Banthu Male, Shankar Guru and so on.
After his marriage, Chandrashekhar moved to Canada and started working with the Indian High Commission as a visa officer. But he continued to act in movie whenevere the opportunity presented itself. He became director with Poorva Para, which was the first Kannada film to be screened at the Toronto Film Festival and many other countries, including Australia.
In his career, he worked in over 60 movies and was last seen in the recently-released 3 Gante 30 Dina 30 Second.
